We exist to ignite the intellectual curiosity of high school students.
We are the foundation that fosters critical thinking.
Foundation Briefs was started in 2010 by nationally successful debaters Riley Majeune-Fagan and James Mackey as they headed to Stanford University for college. Each developed a deep passion for speech and debate, recognizing its unique ability to challenge students to unearth new ways of thinking about pressing issues. Inspired by their speech and debate coach, James and Riley wanted to cultivate this skill in high school debaters across the nation and so started Foundation Briefs. Since 2010, Foundation Briefs has become the leader in educational materials produced for speech and debate. Our briefs contain a foundation of unique evidence that exposes students to original perspectives on debate resolutions. We strive to include our own analysis that illustrates how to critically apply such evidence to debates. The result is the ultimate teaching tool that helps to bolster and elevate the skills of both novice and champion debaters.
The path to success requires hard work.
Many brief companies claim that you can win a debate by only using their brief. However, we have experienced too many times a debater so reliant on a brief that they have little knowledge of the topic at hand. Our approach is different. Foundation Briefs is used by the very best, but it is a tool to achieve greater understanding of the topic, not a substitute for hard work. Our briefs are praised by teachers and coaches of debate programs for their ability to elevate students' understandings of complex issues. We work hard to include analysis which will teach students how to critically analyze issues. With Foundation Briefs, students then go on to build upon our work and come up with championship caliber arguments.
Grow your classroom into enduring thinkers.
